Daffodil ~ A Photoshoot

Hey guys! Happy St Patrick's Day! It's also Hozier's birthday and I swear I only know that because he's Irish and that's the most conveniently Irish day for an Irish person to be born on.
Anyway.
I decided to take AG's token Irish girlie out for a photoshoot! Nellie is one of my favorite dolls, but she hasn't been featured on the blog since, um, let me check... 2019
This is way overdue.
Enjoy!

I tried something new with the editing and... it looks way too harsh? And then I look at it again and I think it looks good? I don't know anymore. I think I've gotten these pictures to a place I'm happy with, but I'll definitely have to keep practicing. New goal!

WAS NO ONE GOING TO TELL ME THAT DAFFODILS ARE THE SAME THING AS NARCISSUSES??? YOU CANNOT JUST KEEP THESE THINGS FROM ME, NOT WHEN GREEK MYTHOLOGY IS AT PLAY! WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT'S WHAT NARCISSUS TURNED INTO WHEN HE DIED?!
*Ahem*
Sorry. I just googled daffodil and apparently the scientific name is narcissus, which... if you don't know Greek Mythology, is the guy who fell in love with his reflection. The story goes that after he died, flowers grew on the riverbank and they were named after him. I had no idea daffodils were the same thing though. Narcissus and Echo was definitely one of the most memorable stories in Ovid's Metamorphoses for me, so I'm geeking out over here.

I actually think I really like this photo. Her eyes look so bright. The vignette is *chef's kiss.*

Okay so my camera did something weird with the aperture and I can't decide if using a different f-stop would fix it moving forward or if I should just get a new lens. I still do not have a lens that fits my camera mount. 😬 It's okay, we'll say this photoshoot was an experiment.

I genuinely cannot imagine Just Dolling without Nellie. She may not get a lot of spotlight, but she has a huge personality in my collection and I have so many childhood memories with this girl. Plus, she is *adorable.*

As I've definitely talked about before, I lose a lot of motivation in the winter. Well, the SAME DAY that daylight savings started, all of my seasonal depression went away. It was amazing. I haven't felt this good in months. That's when I actually noticed that there were daffodils growing near my favorite photography spot, so I really wanted to get pictures! When the primroses start coming in, I think I'll take Josefina out for pictures. :)

I got "Daffodil" by Florence + The Machine stuck in my head while taking these. And again, something is wonky in this photo and I think it's the aperture.

Have you ever seen Nellie in modern clothes? If not, now you have! My Nellie has always been kind of an oversized tshirt girl, so the outfit she's wearing is not really how I imagine her dressing, but it's so cute. Of course, she had to wear some green, and Ivy's pants are literally my favorite AG pants. I have a pattern I made using Ivy's pants and the cut is to die for. We're not addressing the Hozier shirt; it's St Patrick's day and that was the most Irish thing I had. Says the girl who has Nellie's Irish dance costume.

I don't know how I feel about the framing here. I think I was aiming to get her on the grid and I missed a little bit. I had to get really low to take these pictures and I struggled a bit. I did not feel like laying down on the grass that day. 😭

I have a love-hate relationship with this photo. It could be great! But I gave up. I honestly think I need to buy the full version of Adobe Lightroom so I can *actually* edit my photos. I don't normally edit my stuff because... it's a lot of work... and I don't know what I'm doing... BUT I want to work on that skill. Is it too late to make New Year's Resolutions?

I love how you can see that the wind is blowing through the little piece of hair that's not in her braids. It's been so windy here lately. And apparently we're under a wildfire watch, which is insane, but it was kinda hazy when I took these pictures so I don't know if that made a difference in the photo quality.

I've run out of things to talk about so... um... I just found out that one of my favorite bands is coming to a music venue in my area and I'm excited for that. They're pretty new and up-and-coming so I didn't think I'd get to see them live anytime soon.

I can't decide if this framing is good or not.

I actually really like this one. Other than the weird aperture. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do we like this one or not? I can't decide. 😅

That's all for today! Have an amazing week and remember to eat your veggies! Bye! <3

  1. *I* think this is the best photoshoot you've done. Like. My jaw is on the floor. (not me counting the photos like an insane person) but 9, 11, and 15 are my favorites (although honestly, it's really hard to pick!) Can you just like, mail that daffodil field to me??? I'm so jealous in the absolute best way.

  2. Hozier's birthday is St. Patrick's Day? That is a funny day for an Irish person to be born. And that's the *only* reason you know that? My Irish singer was born on September....(okay I might have to double check but I think it's the 13th...) 13th. I know that because I have an unhealthy obsession. 😂

Nellie is such a pretty doll! I love how she is such a special doll to you. The daffodils are so pretty.

I'm so glad Daylight Savings is helping you feel better! I swear I'm the opposite of what a human should be because I have been way more tired and stressed since DST. It's like the opposite of seasonal depression. 😂

I hope you and your family will be safe from the wildfires! It's crazy to see the wildfires across the country. I have family and friends who were under wildfire watches too...I think it might have affected your photos a little bit because it looks similar to one of the photos my friend sent me of the smoky air. It looks cool, I guess. So there's a small bright side😂

    1. Right? I wouldn't remember if he wasn't Irish tbh. 😂

I honestly need to take more pictures of Nellie! It's a shame I haven't.

Aw man, that's no fun. Hopefully you start feeling less tired and stressed soon.

Okay, I couldn't tell if the haze was affecting anything, but that's good to know! The fires were hundreds of miles away, but the fact that it was visible in the air was kind of crazy. I think we're all clear now... (it took me an insane amount of time to reply to your comment. I am so sorry.)

      Thank you for commenting!
