Hi, Barbie! ~ A Photoshoot
Hey guys! I could say a lot of things about my blogging so far this year... but yeah. I've had a busy schedule with my brother's hockey and kind of a general creative slump. But! Hockey season is over. (My brother's team won their championship, which I was really excited about. I'm going to miss taking photos for the team, but I won't miss waking up at 5 for morning games.) My posting is probably going to be more regular going forward, at least until I have to take finals.
Enough of that life stuff! March 8th was International Women's Day and March 9th was National Barbie Day, which, if you know me IRL... those are the things I'm known for. Feminism and Barbies.
So yeah, I decided to take some pictures with my AG x Barbie Collab stuff, which I hadn't done any photoshoots with yet! Let's get into it!
Eden!! I got American Girl's Day-to-Night Barbie outfit for Christmas and Eden was naturally the doll I wanted to wear it. Eden is my lookalike doll, and "Barbie" is my nickname at school, so of course she had to cosplay D2N Barbie! I wasn't sure what kind of backdrop to use for these photos, but I like what I came up with and I like how all the pictures turned out.
I think this photo looks so studio-like.
I know not a lot of AG collectors are also Barbie fans, so I thought this would be a good place for a bit of Day-to-Night Barbie trivia. D2N Barbie was released in 1985, during the "Superstar Era," which is when Barbie started to be associated with the color pink for the first time. Cultural shifts in women's rights pushed Barbie to be re established as the career woman we know today, rather than a "teen age fashion model" (which she was originally marketed as at the time of her release in 1959). D2N Barbie represented a chic business woman, but a sparkly jumpsuit and reversible skirt allowed kids to switch her outfit into a "nighttime" look. D2N Barbie remains iconic with collectors, and I was ecstatic that AG made an 18-inch doll version of the set! But yeah, one criticism I've seen of this outfit is that there's only one skirt, but that's the original gimmick of the Barbie doll and it makes me super happy that they kept it. I thrifted a D2N Barbie a couple years ago so it was really fun going through all the pieces and comparing them to the original Barbie doll.
Okay this framing is kind of amazing.
I also wanted to take some pictures of my Barbie collector doll! I kind of hate how this one turned out but it's whatever.
I don't really like this one either. Maybe it's the angle.
I know she's not everyone's cup of tea, but I love this doll.
I really like the bokeh in the background of this one.
We're back to Eden! I switched her to the night outfit for these!
I've honestly run out of things to say at this point because the photos are all really similar lol.
I figured out a cool thing on my camera where it will show you a meter that'll tell you whether or not you're holding the camera level which... I really needed, to be honest. No more crooked doll photos on Just Dolling, hopefully.
Okay she's honestly giving school dance vibes which reminds me of the photo of me during hoco this year in which I'm glaring into the camera while making heart hands. I looked so emo in the picture. It was great. *I'm not actually emo but my music taste is so that's the joke.*
She fell, so I decided to try something a little different. I like it! It needs to be cropped at the bottom, but oh well.
That's all for now! I'm excited to get a post out next week because I already have ideas, but until then, have a great week and remember to eat your veggies! Bye!
I have so many things I could say right now... you don't mind long comments, do you? First of all, hockey is my f.a.v.o.r.i.t.e. sport (I could go off about hockey guys, but considering your brother, that would be really weird, so I won't) but I am SO happy for him!!! That is so awesome. And again. Hockey. Huge fan.
ReplyDeleteSecondly... Barbie was my childhood yet I don't really consider myself a Barbie fan anymore... (though I am fighting the urge to create my own Barbie AG doll) but.... and I say this with a bit of hesitation... I may or may not have seen the Barbie movie... at least six times... I could get so into just the politics/agenda stuff behind it, and just. Ryan Gosling's acting. Obv.
Thirdly, excited for your post next week and just your more "normal" posting schedule! (Personally, I feel like not having a posting schedule is part of what makes my account... my account). I love reading through your stuff <3
Fourth, these are all s.u.p.e.r. cute photos, I love the background, and that last photo... *chefs kiss*
Fifth, and final note, that camera feature is so cool! I can hold my phone level... the problem is my dolls never stand level... so I have to go in and rework the photo anyway.
And this was my attempt at a "brief" comment, I'm sorry 😂, I'm also sorry this is like three days late... my life has been a whirlwind. #college finals
Long comments are my favorite kinds of comments! 🖤 If I had to pick, hockey would be my favorite sport. I'm... not a sports person AT ALL. 😅 But yeah I kinda felt like I was apart of their team when I was taking pictures so it was exciting!
DeleteThe Barbie movie omg... 💗 I've lost count of how many times I've seen it, I love it so much. (I'm envisioning the photoshoots you would do with a custom Barbie AG doll- that would be super fun!)
I'm excited too! I'm a generally disorganized person, so I feel like having something like the blog where I can practice scheduling my "work" out and setting deadlines for myself (outside of a school setting) is SUPER rewarding for me. It means so much to me that you enjoy my stuff!
Thank you so much!
Right? I accidently hit a button, stared at it for a second and went "oh that's what that's for!" 😅 But yeah. Dolls don't like to stand level. I get that.
For some reason it took me like two days to write up this reply so it's all even. 😭
(we're not going to talk about how I missed a good chunk of your posts, but I'm back!)
ReplyDeletecongrats to your brother! I don't know much about hockey, but winning is cool. 😅
These photos are so cute! I was never a huge Barbie fan, but I did play Barbies growing up. *shrugs* The backdrop is super cute and I love Eden's outfit! The Barbie AG doll is cute too.
(Girl, you are fine; I'm pretty sure I've done the same on your blog.)
DeleteWinning is great. That's... the only part of most sports I understand. 😭
I was kinda the same. Like, I was way more of an AG fan when I was little and then the Barbie movie came out and now I love both.
Thank you so much!
