Hyper-actively Customize a Doll With Me
Hey guys! I genuinely do not know how to start this post. I had just gotten my ears pierced and was drinking a sugary(?) drink, so I'm blaming this adventure on adrenaline and sugar.
Anyway. I started feeling hyperactive, so I decided it would be a good idea to do some doll customizing. This quickly proved to not be a good idea.
If you remember The doll I got for $6... um, yeah. She was still sitting in my doll room while I decided what to do with her. I actually really wanted to gift her, but I didn't think that was going to work out. Initially, I wanted to customize her. I LOVED the idea of brown hair with her hazel eyes, and then I remembered that I kept the wig from the doll that became Liam! Liam was originally a Grace doll, so I thought that wig could be really cute!
This post is a walkthrough of all the chaos that happened!
Here's my victim. :) In front of my Hozier concert poster, obviously.
And the wig! Do you see my vision?
She still had the price tag on her, so I tried to take it off and this happened... yikes. Actual proof she was $6 though?
Oh, and I took a picture of the culprit behind my insanity. It's a Sonic Blueberry Lavender Lemonade, which, for the record, is delicious. I have trouble with sugary things, so flavored drinks are usually too much for me, but it hasn't really caused much of an issue the few times I've had it. But. I drank 1 1/2 of them and it made me hyper.
I laid out my supplies: the doll, the wig, a (brand new!) magic eraser, and a spoon (to help with the rewigging process.)
I did also notice she had this big shiny scuff on her leg, which I just realized I forgot to do anything about.
I started trying to get the price sticker off with a wash cloth and water, but that left sticky residue on her arm.
It was not ideal.
Then, I wiped her down with the magic eraser. She wasn't too dirty. Also please ignore my nails in these pictures--- I know they need to be repainted. 😅
She has some dye transfer stains on her arms that I decided I'd tackle on a later day. One of Troy's arms is stained completely red, so it's safe to say I've seen worse what my $6 doll has. Fun Just Dolling trivia: that's why I always have Troy in long sleeves. ðŸ˜
The magic eraser did not remove all the stickiness on her arm.
I decided to use a baking soda and water mix to scrub the stickiness off! ...And I spilled the baking soda. That's when I realized I was more hyper than I thought.
That didn't work either, and that's when I remembered that I stole Goo Gone from its proper place in my family's shed!
Yes, okay, I'll admit that my doll restoration room is my bathroom. It has easy access to water and stuff, so I end up keeping a lot of random supplies for fixing dolls in there. Hence the Goo Gone--- it was for some Ever After High / Monster High restoration.
The Goo Gone worked perfectly!
After that, I was ready to tackle the wig swap.
I tried to loosen up the glue with some nail polish remover, which is what's pictured here, along with the huge mess I made. :) I had a really hard time getting the wig to come up. I always think it's going to be easy... Lottie's original wig already wasn't fully attached when I rewigged her for the first time, so it was a quick removal. Troy's original wig came off with a tug, no nail polish remover needed. Liam's was a lot harder, and took a long time.
I eventually broke some of the glue, and it was pretty easy to pry the wig off from there!
I was not as gentle as I should have been, but I didn't tear anything. Athough... I scraped my hand/wrist on the bits of glue on her head. 😠I don't know if blood, sweat, and tears went into making this doll, but blood did. 😀 The cuts aren't too bad, luckily.
I tried the Grace wig on, and she was every bit as cute as I hoped she'd be!
The next part was gluing the wig on.
I found some tacky glue... no glue was coming out. I think, "Okay, I'll just cut the bottle open."
...My scissors broke.
I finally sawed the bottle apart, and... the glue is the texture of rubber. A little too tacky, hehe.
I decided her wig would stay unglued for now! Actually, I'm pretty sure none of my other customs' wigs are glued on properly... Troy's has been glued a few different times with regular Elmer's glue, Lottie's is glued with Elmer's glue, Liam's isn't glued at all. So.
And the final reveal.....
This is Georgiana Campbell, but everyone calls her Georgie! *I honestly got her first name from Pride and Prejudice.* Obviously I'm still working out her character, but I have a very specific vibe for her. Think autumn leaves, candles, watching TV in bed on a rainy day. :) She'll be around the blog eventually... I really want to retake the pictures for the Meet the Dolls page, so that's why Lottie, Liam, Eris, and Delmar are all missing. I'll have time for it someday. 😅
And that's all for now! Have a great day and remember to eat your veggies! Bye! :)
Georgie turned out so cute! I love the Grace wig.
ReplyDeleteHer personality seems cool...I'm kind of getting Gilmore Girls vibes from the little bit you shared? Excited to see more of her!
I'm *obsessed* with her!
DeleteI've seen like 1/3 of an episode of Gilmore Girls... but from what I know about it, I think the vibe I'm curating for her is similar! Thank you! :)
