A Monster High Photoshoot :)
Hello, friends. :) I have really honestly been loving Monster High lately. I don't know what it is, but I've felt eager to do some more stuff with them! So, naturally, when I had lots of free time after school, I decided to do some Monster High photography. I wasn't going to post these, but I ended up with 14 pictures, so I decided to anyway!
Let's get into it!
So, for this photoshoot, I used my Cleo and Deuce. They're reproductions (dubbed "Creeproductions," lol) of the original Cleo and Deuce dolls that were made in 2010 and I am SO lucky to have them! My mom snagged this duo in spring 2024, and I got to have them when I got an A in AP Chemistry. They're two of my favorites in my MH collection, but I'm super selective about that collection, so I could argue that they're all my favorites. I think this picture had the wrong aperture and you can kind of see my door, but better pictures are coming up!
This is already a bit better! Posing for this photoshoot was hard, but so fun. MH dolls don't really stand on their own very well, so Deuce is on a stand and Cleo is propped up against him. In MH media, they're a couple, so I tried to play into that with the posing.
This may get me fired from my position at Just Dolling, but I've never actually watched any Monster High shows or movies... I know a lot of the lore from collecting! But I'm a total disappointment, I know. Jk.
We're getting into the territory of photos I really like! So, continuing the line of never having watched MH... I did have three Monster High dolls as a little kid, which I no longer have, but one of them was a Cleo doll! It was I Love Shoes Cleo, and I loved her because she had short hair. The one in my pictures I love because she has a great design. I love the tinsel and mummy motifs, plus that face card?? It's lethal. Oh! And if any of my readers are less familiar with Monster High, since the characters are all based on monsters, Cleo is the daughter of a mummy and Deuce is the son of Medusa. Which... y'all know I love Greek Mythology, so it's a given that I love Deuce too.
(And no, they're not accurate to what they're based off of, but it's a kid's toy line!)
I loved this pose with Deuce's hand on Cleo's arm... he was completely holding Cleo up, but y'know. It turned out well. You can see the waist clip for Deuce's stand in these pictures if you look close enough, but I do not care.
Now, this one!! The aperture is right on this. Tbh, the black poster board that I always use in photoshoots finally got tossed... that's the end of an era. 🥲 However, I have a little photography backdrop I bought to turn into an 1/6 scale doll room (Barbie and Monster High size), and that's what this backdrop is. The bokeh is fairy lights I dug out of my AG stuff. :)
Cleo is such a diva in this one. I genuinely had so much fun with posing! 😄 This picture is my favorite.
The bokeh is so good here. I didn't like that, since I had to use a wider aperture, Cleo's hand is blurry. It initially bothered me that Deuce was blurry too, but I started playing into it, as you'll soon see.
You'll notice Deuce has sunglasses on in all these pictures. That's because, like his mother Medusa, eye contact turns people into stone. Also, the paint on the glasses rubbed off and now there's red under his eyes. I'll fix it eventually...
Idk what to say on this one!
Deuce has so much personality in this one!! Monster High's boy dolls are a bit overlooked, honestly. Deuce is probably my favorite of their boy dolls; I feel like he's got a fun expression to work with. I've taken a really good photo of him before, but I don't think I've ever shared it on the blog:
This was on my old camera, and I wish I'd used a different aperture, but otherwise? I'm obsessed. I feel like he's about to turn the viewer into stone.
Before I got Deuce down from my shelf, I took a few photos of just Cleo! The white and gold background looks so good with her color palette.
I love how the bokeh is concentrated near her hand, almost like she's shooting sparkles out of her hand or something.
I have been sleeping on Monster High photography fr. The dolls are so unique and colorful, and there's so much potential for themed photoshoots! I have at least two good ideas for Monster High photoshoots right now.
And one last one! I can't decide whether or not I like this angle. I think I do, but that's subject to change.
And that's all for now. Have a great week and remember to eat your veggies! Bye! <3
