Addy on Film ~ A Photoshoot
Hey guys! Yes, I did disappear for almost a month. Why, you ask? I dunno, I just felt like it. But! I wanted to get a post in before April was over. AP testing is coming up, and test prep is kind of sucking the life out of me right now. I have no regrets, but just a warning in case this is the last post I'm able to do before the school year is over. I do love making these posts, so I decided to do a quick photoshoot in my backyard with Addy!
I hope you enjoy! :)
Okay, before we get too far into this, I need to address the elephant in the room. I really wanted to try to make these photos look like they were done on old film, so I did some crazy stuff with the editing. I have a complicated love-hate relationship with what I've done here, but I think I accomplished my mission. You could say I'm very much in an experimental editing phase, and I think I've mentioned that in every photoshoot since like February but I digress. The old film style very much fits my Addy's vibe.
A really significant part of this photoshoot I want to highlight is her shirt! So, a few months ago, AG released the "Modern Era" collector dolls for their 40th anniversary. For the sake of being brief, I'm going to assume everyone here is familiar with the controversy surrounding Modern Era Addy's box art (which is not a fair assumption to make at all, I just don't think I have it in me to go in detail--- in a nutshell, it shows a plantation setting, which is just *really* not appropriate to display a modern character in).
It was enough that Connie Porter--- the author of Addy's books--- made a statement condemning it. It may have also been Porter who suggested it, but I saw someone say AG could have easily used the "LOVE" sculpture in Philadelphia as the background instead.
I had to look it up to make sure I was thinking of the right statue, but indeed we actually have a copy of it at my local art museum! So I thought, "If AG can't do Addy right, I will," and got to work on my own Modern Addy outfit. I sadly haven't made it to the museum to get pictures of Addy in front of the sculpture, but it's still on my to-do list. I wanted to show off Addy's "modern" outfit a little before then, though. :)
Her shirt gave me a little bit of a hard time, but I think it fits my Addy's vibe, at least. I thrifted the fabric, and I think it's so gorgeous. And the buttons are vintage Czech glass from around the 1950s. I don't know if you can see the little flower designs on them. They make me so happy.
We have these wild blackberry bushes in my backyard that I decided to take pictures in front of. They're starting to bloom, and they're so pretty. After they bloom every year, they make the most delicious blackberries and it's so fun to go outside and grab a handful of berries. Oddly, my dog really loves them, too.
Of course the two pictures I took that aren't in front of the blackberry bushes are my favorites. I digress.

I didn't dig my reflector out for these photos, but I really should have. I feel like that's always the way it goes.
Isn't Addy's hair cute in French braids? I usually have her hair in some kind of style because it's VERY thick and gets in her face.
I've never said anything bad about Addy, but I think I need to appreciate her more. I read her books in my early teens, and I remember them being really good, but I never formed much of an emotional bond with Addy. For some reason, at this current moment, my heart is telling me to go obsess over her, so we'll see what happens. I think this is a bad time to be an Addy stan because her collection is $$$. I do have two of her outfits, though.
I really thought, having not posted in a month, I'd have a lot of life updates. Turns out, not so much. I'm already running out of things to say.
Oh, in my last post, I talked about my new dolls I got for doing well on my ACT. Well, I was already registered to take it again in April, so I did, and I went up 4 points in math! So my super score is now a 33, which I'm happy about. :) I got some money for that.
I tried to win an eBay auction for an AG outfit I really want a few nights ago, but to no avail. Oh well. I'm thinking I'm going to buy a slightly pricier one that's listed, but I also feel like not buying a lot of things because Monster High is releasing some stuff I really want soon. Is anyone interested in Monster High doll unboxings? There's a release for a doll I want today (it's actually tomorrow, as I'm pre-writing this, but I mean Monday 4/27), and I could actually probably do a short unboxing post *if I am lucky enough to snag the doll* to tide Just Dolling over until the middle of May. Monster High releases are a bloodbath and I've already been lucky once this year.
This is all rhetorical, by the way.
Here's my obligatory mention that my Addy is Beforever. I love both versions of Addy, but I opted for Beforever when I got mine. I'm not 100% sure why, because I had the option to get the 35th anniversary version. I do, however, really like the feathered eyebrows on the Beforever version, so I'm happy with mine. The Addy mold is potentially my favorite, and I really like this specific 2010s cast of it. I haven't seen too many other eras of the Addy mold IRL, but I know my Addy and Toni (TM 31) are from around the same time frame.
I actually feel like a lot of the angles and framing in this photoshoot are kind of wonky. Is it that obvious I just wanted to throw something together?
This photo!! Now this one, the framing and angle are really good. 5 stars.
Ah, and I finally made it to the end!
That's it for now! Have a great week and remember to eat your veggies! Bye! <3
