How I Display 70+ Dolls

Hey guys! I thought this would be a fun post for a while, and now I finally have my room looking presentable. (Organized shelving?? Who are you, and what have you done with E??) So anyway, this is a tour of the different shelving / doll displays in my room. I wanted to include more than just my American Girl dolls, hence the 70+ dolls mentioned in the title. The photos ended up pretty dark, just as a warning.

My main center for American Girl storage is my dollhouse which... normally looks like this, I'm not gonna lie. I typically have dolls standing in the rooms in varying degrees of undress. Obviously, I get them out and use them as I need, but it's definitely not always the most organized looking. It's a little messier than usual because of Christmas. I have some boxes of unopened AG stuff, because I thought it would be more fun to open them when I need something to do instead of opening everything at once.

This is my AG doll shelf. It's right above my bed and yes, dolls have fallen on me while I'm sleeping. 😭 It's technically for the historical characters, but I'll frequently switch out who's on the shelf.

My current favorite display is this one. I got this shelf for Christmas, and I think the display turned out very aesthetic. I just cannot get over how much I love the AG Barbie collector doll. And then my G1 Monster High collection!! I love them! Seeing them makes me feel so happy and nostalgic. Then, of course, on the bottom, the only dolls I could fit were Bratz. This setup works so much better for them than the one I had before. There are a couple I have my eye on right now, so I might indulge now that I have a better spot for Bratz. Also on the shelf is some AG... memorabilia? I don't know what else to call it. Hallmark made a series of little American Girl figurines and ornaments in the early 2000s and they're some of my favorite things to look for in thrift stores. The snow globe is Kaya and I just think that's the coolest thing. Also the little leather bag hanging from the shelf is an old camera that I thrifted (for a steal, I might add. It is PRISTINE), and even though I have a box camera (on the shelf as well), this one is a folding camera like Kit's. I have wanted an IRL version of Kit's camera since I was 7. Childhood dream accomplished. 🥹

This is my big shelf (or, at least the doll parts of the big shelf) but there's a lot here, so I took pictures of the details.

This is the top... I honestly kind of hate how this looks right now. I used to have a setup that I liked more, but now it just looks like I'm running out of space. Anyways, these are my white body dolls. I finally have all three! Samantha was a Christmas gift this year, along with her trunk. I have wanted one of the AG trunks FOREVER and my mom got both of them for a steal. Also the Barbie case... I am in love with 1960s Barbie artwork and think I could genuinely collect just 60s Barbie cases. I also have the holiday Barbie from the year I was born and that super cool Barbie car. Fun history about the car: it's the first car Barbie ever had, and it came out in 1962.

My 1960s Barbie shelf. From left to right: Ken, Barbie, Allan, and Midge. They're all first year except Barbie. Ken's outfit was a recent flea market find, which I was pumped about (it's authentic 60s Barbie). Allan might be my favorite. He stole my heart in the Barbie movie and his doll is SO precious. (That little button nose?? I can't. 😭) He's also the only one here that's not blonde. We love him for it. Behind them is another Barbie case, which holds all of their outfits. Barbie, Ken, Allan, and the case full of clothes were a birthday present and genuinely one of the best gifts I've ever received. I had only ever mentioned wanting Allan, but my family pitched together and got me this amazing collection. <3

These are my Barbie movie dolls. I had a huge phase after the Barbie movie of trying to get the dolls and it was super fun. You kinda can't see all of them that great but it's fine. I absolutely LOVE the thrill of the hunt when it comes to finding dolls, and I had to stalk the internet for months to get all of these dolls before they sold out or right when they restocked. I don't have all the Barbie movie dolls, but I've got a pretty good selection of my favorites. My heart belongs to Kenough Ken.

G3 Monster High!! For non MH collectors, this is basically the current rebooted version of Monster High. I also have my Barbie Looks dolls sitting on the shelf and you can see the tops of their heads... so yeah. Jinafire (second from the right) is my favorite G3 doll, without a doubt. The detail is just like... how is this a $25 doll???! G3 started off rocky, but the more recent dolls have really impressed me. Also yes, I have American Girl books behind them. (And a random copy of Beowulf because why not.)

This is kind of a random shelf. I have the original Day to Night Barbie and I was thinking about doing a side-by-side comparison of AG's recent recreation of her outfit? Also on this shelf is probably the weirdest doll I own, the Sweet 16 doll. Sweet 16 was made by Mattel in the 1970s... but isn't a Barbie! She was a cheaper Barbie alternative who used Barbie's molds but was giving generic branding, as you can tell by her packaging. She uses a face mold that was only used a handful of times on rare Japanese-exclusive (Barbie-branded) dolls in the early 1970s. Mine was given to me for my 16th birthday. And yes, that is a turkey foot on my shelf. It's lucky. Don't worry about it.

That's about it! I have some really exciting news, but I think I'll hold off on it until I can do something big to celebrate. Until next time, have a great week and remember to eat your veggies! Bye! <3

  1. Ooh, exciting news! Can't wait to hear it!
Having your dolls above your bed is honestly so brave...you must not live in an earthquake-prone area then, haha! Are all of these in your bedroom or do you have a doll room?

    1. I'm so excited to talk about it!
We don't live in an earthquake-prone area. 😂 Ironically, we've only had two earthquakes here in my lifetime and one was recent enough for me to have this shelf... surprisingly none of the dolls fell off! Granted, it was magnitude 1 and lasted maybe 2 seconds.
All of my dolls are in my bedroom. :)

  2. Your comments about the doll house are SO relatable! There was a time where that was literally me! I keep the majority of my collection stacked above my dresser (which is next to my bed) so dolls fall off my dresser onto the mattress from time to time... sometimes I'll wake up to a thud in the middle of the night and in the morning I just have dolls all on the floor 😭😂
    Ooo! Congrats on the news!

    1. I feel that on so many levels. The floating shelves used to be crooked and dolls would fall RIGHT next to my head (or on, a few times) way too often. It scared the living daylights out of me every time. 😭
      I'm super excited!

  4. This is so fun to see! I had to stop collecting Barbies or my room would explode. I totally feel your pain of not enough space and dolls falling down. My dolls fall when I go off and travel and abandon them for a week +. My landlords get creeped out when they hear a THUMP! from upstairs and they go up and check and see dolls on their faces on the floor. I guess they must miss me that much! hahaha!

  5. Having a doll fall on you while you're sleeping sounds straight out of a horror movie😭 Love how organized and aesthetic it is!

    1. Eh, I think at this point, I've gotten used to the idea that a loud thud in the night = a doll falling, so it's more annoying than scary. It does hurt though if they happen to fall on me.
Thank you! It doesn't always look so organized but I'm glad I get your seal of approval!
