My Dolls' Theme Songs (The Happy Fits Edition!)

Hey guys! I’m doing something different in this post. Like… a lot different. People close to me know about my infamous 59-hour long playlist, which just speaks for itself that I love listening to music. 😂 When writing, I typically pick a song (or several) to represent my characters, because so much about their person can be represented through the melody and lyrics of a song. I’ve tried to make a list of one song that goes with each of my dolls (which I could potentially share in a later post), but today, I thought I’d challenge myself to pick one song for each of my dolls… from one band! I mentioned The Happy Fits in my last post; I love shuffling their music when my mood needs a pick-me-up, which, as the end of the school year approaches, I’ve needed more and more. 😅 With The Happy Fits releasing a new single recently, I thought this post would be really fun to make. Hopefully you guys enjoy it too! Let’s get started!

Also note this list does not include all my dolls. :)

Marie Grace

Of course I have to start my first doll with a sentimental song! I like to make Marie Grace’s character pretty sentimental since she was my first doll, and The Garden is just beautiful.

Kit

Kit is forever my writing girlie, and after looking up the lyrics of Hold Me Down and stumbling on an interview about the song, I realized it’s actually perfect for Kit. The song is about getting lost in a creative daze and needing someone to bring you back down to earth. I think I’ve experienced this with my own writing. 😅

Julie
I can’t explain how I get Julie vibes from this song. Place in The World just has the right happy, trying-our-best attitude for Julie.

Felicity
Felicity is the fashionable character in my dollhouse. (Yes, I know my Felicity is the opposite of the AG character… that’s on 9-year old me discovering MixiePixie7’s Sofie Claire for the first time.) Hungry People is kind of about fame and how it gets misconstrued as famous = good quality. The references to designer brands was too good of an opportunity to pass up for Felicity, since she’s fashionable but I don't picture her as vain.

Luciana
Disclaimer, I love Mary. Like, might be my favorite song of theirs. It was the second Happy Fits song I ever listened to, and what led me to discover more of their music. The cello lowkey makes me regret giving up violin in 6th grade, which is saying a lot because I HATED violin. It obviously has a lot of meaning in the context of relationships, but I have this interpretation of it as never really being satisfied with what you have and seeking out more, which doesn’t always lead you to healthy things. Luciana is one of those people that’s not easily satisfied, and I can definitely picture her struggling to find that line of pushing herself to achieve her goals versus unchecked ambition.

Molly
There’s a voice in my head telling me to use Grow Back for Molly, so I’m going to listen to the voice. I don’t necessarily think it’s the perfect song for her, but I do think it works. Don’t question my method for putting these songs with my dolls. Just don’t.

Nellie
I interpret this song as kind of saying “when you make mistakes, don’t get hung up on them” I just felt like that would go well for Nellie, because she’s very good at not giving up on things.

Luna
Luna is one of my older dolls who helped me through a lot of hard times. I struggled a lot with friendships in elementary school, and I ended up making Luna’s character into the friend I wished I had. Achey Bones is my selection for her because of that story. The song, to me, is about seeking acceptance and feeling disappointed, but still finding the value in those experiences. “Who would I love here if I hadn’t gone?” is the lyric that sticks out to me the most, because it implies that, through all, the people we love and the connections we make prove to be the most influential parts of our lives, no matter how we’re received. The correlation between doll and song is more personal, but yeah. I had to pick it for her. :)

Isabelle
I had to give this to one of my dancers. I thought it fit Isabelle the best. One of the most difficult parts of making this list was trying to figure out how to fit songs with a romantic context to my dolls, which is definitely a genre I don’t necessarily care for, but I think Dance Alone fits a greater context of just… not wanting to be alone. It’s a human thing to seek connection, no matter the nature of that connection, and I think it’s a great anthem. My bestie and I tried to get the DJ to play it at homecoming, but alas, we were unsuccessful.

Olivia-Claire
With Olivia-Claire, of course I have to choose the happiest song possible. And I mean, The Happy Fits have “happy” in their name, so that wasn’t gonna be a challenge. I love that The Happy Fits have such energetic songs about things that aren’t always happy, but I couldn’t decide what would fit Olivia-Claire the best. I think Another Try fits her overall optimism.

Lottie
Choosing this one simply because it’s a cute love song and Lottie is the love song type. She’d like it a lot.

Samantha
I view this song as kind of a satirical critique of people who let fame and money get to their heads, especially when they start thinking they’re better than others. Samantha is a “fighting for a better future for everyone” kind of person, and I think this song pays a nice tribute to her book character, who I love to reference for my Samantha’s character, because though Samantha is wealthy, she takes time to understand the problems that people in lower classes face. :)

Joss
What Could Be Better is kind of about not really doing anything with your life. I felt like the vibes fit Joss, because she loves to have fun, but I could totally see her parents trying to make her take things more seriously.

Courtney
Go Dumb was the only song that could possibly fit Courtney’s penchant for chaos, I can’t give any more explanation. 😭

Troy
And of course I’m giving Troy their newest song. 😀 I wasn’t initially going to, but the song is about not wanting to fall in love because you don’t feel financially ready for a relationship. Which, like, yeah, I never have money when there’s a doll I want, so I get that. Troy, I think, would be the kind of teen that is always spending money and never has any for actual important things. I love representing his dramatic-ness (that’s totally a word), so we’re going with the absolute crisis that Everything You Do is. (Remind me to finish the photo story about Troy’s terrible-with-money ways. It’ll be great.)

Kirsten
Going entirely based on the first lyrics of the song, I’m putting Relimerence with Kirsten. Not because I think she’d relate to the idea of losing someone you love (But seriously, The Happy Fits nail unrequited love songs), but I think she’d have the perfect advice for someone going through a situation like that. Her or Addy… definitely the people you wanna take advice from.

Saige
A song about being insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but accepting that you aren’t really alone. That’s precisely how I imagine Saige.

Lea
I honestly just really wanted to put the song about not wanting to get a job with my doll that very much would have a job (I think I have it written down somewhere that she works at a coffee shop). I’ve never met a teenager that works that’s 100% happy with their job, so the contrast totally works. Don’t question me.

Logan
So… this song is about dancing, and Logan is a musician, and maybe I should put it with one of my dolls that is a dancer, but there are some themes that just fit Logan perfectly. The idea of doing what you love despite it not being “right,” and bringing people together is so Logan.

Ivy
There is no other doll in my collection that fits the song No Instructions as much as Ivy does. This is the most dance-able song about not knowing what the heck to do with your life that I have ever heard.

Claudie
So Cool, Alright, Whatever was the first Happy Fits song I ever listened to. My Spotify algorithm pushed it in my direction, I absentmindedly added it to my playlist, and the rest is history! The best interpretation of the song came from my friend, who explained it as: “The song is what he wants to say when he gets broken up with, and the title is what he actually says.” The concept of not having the right words to say in the moment is so relatable in many other aspects of life, and I think it really resonates with my Claudie’s character.

Maryellen
So, okay, this is more of a love song, but I totally had this vision in my head of this song being about Maryellen and whatever monster she’s trying to hunt in the woods, and now I’m cracking up, because hello??? So. It’s perfect.

Stella
She Wants Me (To Be Loved) is THE unrequited love song. I recommended this song to my friend after she got friendzoned… and… yeah I’m great at giving love advice, why do you ask? *Ahem* Anyway, unrequited love is just Stella’s thing. I think of her as kind of a third wheel to Courtney’s friend group. (I relate, girl.) In my overly complex, not entirely used lore, Stella has a crush on Logan, but he’s oblivious. So yeah.

Min-Ji
As with everything, I must make Min-Ji’s stuff dramatically edgy. This is a good one for that. It’s a good combination of “you’re gonna get yourself killed” and “you can do better than this.”

Nicki
I have SUCH a hard time giving this to one of my dolls, because all semester at school, my friends and I have been writing this original-character-into-the-spiderverse-marvel thing, and I have this one character I made that I LOVE, who’s this antihero-everyone-thinks-is-a-villain guy. We’ve all agreed that Dirty Imbecile is his song, because it fits his character perfectly. But. If I have to put it with one of my dolls, I like it for Nicki. It’s a song basically saying “Hey, I know I have a rough exterior, but I have so many more qualities deep down.” It’s so good.

Emily
In my interpretation, this song is basically about always wondering if you’re doing the right thing and relying on people you love. I just feel like that fits the very vague idea I have of what Emily is like.

Toni
A deep song with what is objectively one of the funniest music videos I have ever seen. I relate so much to feeling stuck and having to accept that I have to grow as a person. This is basically what Toni’s backstory is about. (Ikr, the Just Dolling dolls have backstories??) She essentially finds herself friendless after realizing that her old friend group has grown away from her, and reconnects with old friends. So yeah. Changes fits. (Except I can’t get that music video out of my head.)

Nanea
It never fails to make me smile when I’m reminded just how UNHINGED this song is. We love it. Also the music video? Might be funnier than Changes. It’s a tight race, but the part where the kid is getting beat up in the bathroom lives rent-free in my head. Anyway. I’m getting off-topic. Nanea is very “Okay cool, but we have bigger problems,” and a song about missing the rough parts of childhood because they’re nothing in comparison to your grown-up problems fits the vibe perfectly.

Rowan
Idk, we’re going off vibes. I love the lyrics and thought it could fit Rowan.

Eris
Okay okay okay, so this song is basically about not having your life together after a breakup, and I’ve finally determined it’s perfect for Eris because her “story” is about moving to Piney Grove and missing her old friends.

Delmar
(yes I finally named her lol)
This is a love song, but it’s genuinely SO CUTE… I think it’s perfect for Delmar because it’s about making your own life with the people you care about, even if it’s nothing remarkable. It’s exactly the vision of Delmar I have in my head.

And that puts this week's post at an end. This is my last Monday of the school year (finally), so when I see you next, it'll be summer!! Until then, have a great week and remember to eat your veggies! Bye! <3

  1. I love this post so much! I can relate to connecting so many of the songs to your doll personalities — because I could easily connect them to my own multiple personalities. 😉 This was a creative post and a great band! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you! I wanted to do something unique that I could squeeze in before finals. I'm glad you liked it. :)

  2. This is such a cool idea, I love this! I've been thinking about character playlists and songs for other characters, but I hadn't thought of songs for my dolls yet, I might immediately do that.
Also I am generally averse to new music that hasn't been specifically recommended for me, but you've made these songs sound so good, and you mentioned cello (I played cello and I love it) so you've got me to listen to Mary, which I enjoyed!

    1. Thank you! Making playlists for my dolls was the original reason I downloaded Spotify. I don't think I ever finished any of the playlists, but it's fun. ;)
Mary is soooo good. Like I mentioned in the post, I played violin in 6th grade, but I'm really starting to think I should have picked cello instead. I could have been a rockstar! 😂

  3. Wow! This post must have taken so much time and effort - well done! I love music (shocker), so I enjoyed seeing a mix of music and dolls. I've never heard any of The Happy Fits songs, so I might have to check them out later. It's so cool when Spotify randomly plays a song from an artist you later end up loving...
You know your characters really well. It must be hard with so many dolls in your collection, but I can really tell how much time you've put into figuring out the dolls and assigning them songs. I'm definitely curious to listen to "Achy Bones" and "Little One" after your descriptions of those songs.
And agh...why is every song a love song? I want a song about struggling to file taxes, personally. (actually, I think I have one of those on my playlist.)
And by now I guess you're finished with school for the year, so congrats! I hope you have a wonderful summer!

    1. Thank you! I also love music (big surprise), and I wanted to find a way to combine the two. I'm glad you liked it! The Happy Fits are a smaller band, but they're so talented and it's the kind of music that just makes you smile. I think they're pretty different from what you usually listen to, so I'd be super curious to hear your opinions! (And they just announced a new single coming out this Thursday so I'm like AHHHH)
I *have* spent many hours of free time working on my doll stuff 😅. Those are both great songs, so I definitely recommend them!
I definitely have my opinions on love songs, don't worry. 😂 THF get my approval, though, I think they portray romantic relationships in a very realistic way. But, off the top of my head: "B.I.L.L.S." by Towa Bird is one about taxes!
I am, thank you! I hope your summer is great as well!
